02What we build

Three ways we put a camera where it has never been

Every platform starts from the camera package and the mission profile. We own the whole stack: airframe, electronics, firmware, flight testing.

03Engineering process

From CAD to flight

We do not assemble kits. Every airframe is designed, simulated, built and flight-tested by the same team.

07FAQ

Questions we get before every project

What does Monster Unit build?

Monster Unit designs and manufactures custom hi-speed FPV cinema platforms, heavy-lift camera platforms and custom electronics for film and industrial use, all developed and built in the EU. Each platform is engineered around a specific camera package and mission profile: airframe, electronics, firmware and flight testing are done by one team. We also fly the equipment ourselves for air-to-air aerial cinematography.

What is the difference between an FPV cinema platform and a heavy-lift platform?

An FPV cinema platform trades payload for speed and agility, while a heavy-lift platform trades speed for payload and stability. FPV camera aircraft carry a compact cinema camera and are flown manually at high speed alongside aircraft or vehicles. Heavy-lift multirotors carry full-size camera packages with stabilized heads, fly slower and longer, and are used for controlled, repeatable shots where payload and image quality matter most.

Which cameras can your platforms carry?

Our platforms carry cinema cameras up to the payload limit of the specific build, for example RED, Sony or Blackmagic class bodies. FPV cinema platforms are built around a compact cinema camera with a lightweight lens; heavy-lift platforms accept full-size camera packages and stabilized heads. The camera package is defined first, and the airframe, power system and mounts are designed around it.

How does air-to-air FPV filming work, and what does a production provide?

We fly a custom FPV cinema platform in formation with the subject aircraft, matching its speed and altitude to capture shots a helicopter or conventional camera ship cannot. The production provides the aircraft and its pilot, joins a pre-flight briefing to agree the flight plan and separation, and secures airspace clearance or permits for the location. We bring the camera aircraft, FPV pilot, camera operator and flight safety procedures.

Where is Monster Unit based and where do you operate?

Monster Unit is based in the European Union and operates across Europe. Design, electronics and manufacturing are done in-house at our EU facility, and our flight crew travels to airfields, airshows and film locations throughout Europe. Flight operations follow EU (EASA) rules for unmanned aircraft; projects outside Europe are considered case by case.

How do I order a custom platform build, and how long does it take?

Send us the camera package, the mission profile and your timeframe through the contact form, and we reply with questions and a proposal. A project then moves through requirements and concept, CAD design and simulation, manufacturing and assembly, and flight testing with delivery and crew training. Lead time depends on the camera package and the level of customisation; typical projects take weeks, not months.

Do you develop custom electronics for non-aviation applications?

Yes, we develop custom electronics for industrial applications beyond our own aircraft: flight and motion controllers, power distribution, telemetry links and sensor integration. The work covers schematics, PCB layout, firmware, prototyping and small-series production in the EU. Typical requests are a purpose-built board or module where an off-the-shelf part does not fit the size, power or environmental requirements.

Do you offer training?

Yes. Training is one of our three areas of work, alongside engineering and manufacturing. Every platform we deliver comes with documentation and hands-on training for your crew, so your operators can fly and maintain the aircraft themselves. We can also train FPV pilots and camera operators for production work, including flying alongside aircraft. Scope, duration and location are agreed per project; describe your needs through the contact form.
